GOODBYE PAUL KANTNER OF JEFFERSON AIRPLANE/STARSHIP, 2016

Goodbye Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane/Starship. What a long strange trip it’s been since the Haight-Ashbury days of psychedelia. An era marked by Bill Graham’s Fillmore, the Monterey festival, the “Summer of Love”, the Trips festival, the “Gathering of the Tribes”, and the music of the Grateful Dead, Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, Country Joe & The Fish, and of course the Airplane. Heady stuff. We celebrate Paul Kantner with this iconic image by Art Kane which in 1968 made the cover of an historic issue of “Life” magazine devoted to “The New Rock”. We’re very sad to announce that yesterday Signe “Toly Anderson, the original singer with the Airplane, also quietly passed away.

Wall Of Sound Gallery is glad to present for the very first time in Italy fine art editions by Barry Feinstein. Photograher, cameraman and art director, Feinstein created many of the entertainment industry’s most compelling and memorable images. Most famous for his album cover artwork, he is responsible for over 500 cover shoots including such classics as All Things Must Pass and The Concert for Bangla Desh by George Harrison, Eric Clapton‘s first solo record, Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds, Pearl by Janis Joplin and many others. However his name is forever connected with Bob Dylan: Feinstein shot the album covers for Dylan’s seminal The Times They Are a-Changin and Before The Flood, besides being the exclusive photographer for his historic 1966 European tour. You can’t afford to miss his two books Real Moments and Early Dylan (with Jim Marshall and Daniel Kramer). We’ll soon keep you posted on the exhibition of Feinstein’s works we plan after the summer.
