“BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. FURTHER UP THE ROAD”
THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF FRANK STEFANKO, 1978-2017
THE SIGNED LIMITED EDITION
PUBLICATION DATE: NOVEMBER 1, 2017
|
With over 400 photos of Bruce Springsteen, mostly unseen or never published before, from Frank Stefanko’s extensive archives, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. FURTHER UP THE ROAD is the most comprehensive overview of Frank’s collaboration of 40 years with Springsteen. Not only, the book also features early concert photos of Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Zappa & the Mothers, Rod Stewart, Lou Reed and John Cale, Johnny Winter; stills from his Southside Johnny’s Hearts of Stone album cover shoot; and contact sheets and images from very early shoots with a very young Patti Smith and a cast of NYC characters and street artists.
Besides Frank’s classic photos of Springsteen, taken between 1978 for such historic albums as Darkness on the Edge of Town and The River, and 1982, at the time of the Nebraska album, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. FURTHER UP THE ROAD will not only feature a treasure trove of outtakes and previously unseen or unpublished images, but also two never published before photoshoots with Bruce, both at his house in Colts Neck, NJ. One is from 2004 around the time of the Devils & Dust album. We are proud to say that the other was granted by Bruce to Frank in April 2017, especially for inclusion in BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. FURTHER UP THE ROAD.
To round things up nicely, the book will also feature a selection of never before published concert photos from Bruce’s 2012 and 2016 tours, as well as snapshots from the Born To Run book celebration party thrown by Simon & Schuster in NYC in 2016; all sorts of ephemera, Polaroids. tearsheets, passes and personal documents that see the light for the very first time in this book.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. FURTHER UP THE ROAD also features an introduction by Bruce Springsteen, forewords by fellow Springsteen photographers Danny Clinch and Eric Meola, and of course extensive insightful text by Frank.
