Description

Published by Wall Of Sound Gallery for Masayoshi Sukita‘s exhibition Heroes | Bowie | Sukita. With a friendhip and creative collaboration that has spanned over 40 years, Sukita and Bowie have gone through changes of identity and look that have marked more than one era, from Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke, let alone their most iconic image ever: the cover shot for the 1977 Heroes album. Bowie has once described Sukita as “a committed and brilliant artist, that I may call Maestro”, but the photographer has never thought of Bowie as a friend or a subject for his photographs, but rather simply as “David Bowie”.

The secret of Sukita’s images of Bowie is a rather natural and delicate approach to Bowie’s everchanging complexity. This exhibition features 37 photographs, including a series of portraits taken in London in 1972 and in New York in 1973, as well as concert photos taken in Japan in the same year. Add to these the iconic images and several outtakes from the Heroes shoot, as well as photographs from a trip to Kyoto, in Japan, from 1980 and some more recent portraits from 1989 and 2002 for the promotion of the Heathenalbum. Among these a shot a life-size mannequin that Sukita had made in order to create new images without bothering his “original” subject. Heroes | Bowie | Sukita is a priceless kaleidoscope that confirms once more how constant change is the only key to remain deeply true to yourself.

The waiting

Please consider an average 3-4 weeks for receiving a photographic print. It may certainly be less for books, posters or other items you may select. Usually prints are made by the photographers themselves or by their printer or lab, so time may vary from one photographer to the other. Sometimes we could have your selected print in stock: if this is the case we can ship it to you immediately. That is, within 2 working days of receiving your payment.
