Description
Cristina Arrigoni’s photographic portraits resonate with the intensity of stark, high-contrast black and white. With this, her second book following The Sound of Hands (Wall Of Sound Editions), dedicated to musicians’ hands, she turns her lens toward the “invisible” — the most fragile and vulnerable individuals of Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park, and the Bowery in New York City, where Cristina spends much of her time.
What might initially appear to be a straightforward anthropological exploration of the physical and psychological toll of life on the streets soon became, for her, a journey of self-discovery and a search for a deeper understanding of the world around her: “We could all become invisible if we were judged solely by our mistakes and the unfortunate events that mark our journeys through life.”
Texts by Cristina Arrigoni. Contributions by Willie Nile, Bob Gruen, David Godlis, and Jesse Malin.
